Unfortunately I didn’t get a chance to document Morayo’s
Potty Training victory, but I’m making sure not to miss out on Demi’s.
Morayo has been potty trained now for what seems like ages!
I believe she got it down shortly after turning two. Once she was potty trained
she was so proud of herself! On one of our visits to Atlanta, her Aunty Juliet
took her to the bathroom and she made it a point to let her know “I don’t wear
Pull-ups, I’m a big girl. I’m potty trained” LOL! I was really proud of her
because once we made the switch from Pull-ups to underwear, she was strictly in
underwear even through the night! We’ve had very few accidents ever since her
underwear days and when it has happened, it was because she drank too much right before
bed and didn’t use the potty. There have been rules set in place to eliminate
that happening and it is working :)
Potty training Demi has been a journey! I was braced for it
though. I dealt minimally with potty training my nephew Paul plus I’ve always
heard the stories about how it is way harder and takes longer with boys. Based
on my experience with Mo and Dems, I can also say it surely is! Way earlier in
the year, I basically skipped Pull-Ups and went from diaper to underwear. I was
just ready for him to be potty trained, I was going to go hard, and I just knew
he was going to get on mommy’s plan. Wrong! It worked for a little bit though.
He was very excited about the set of Thomas the train underwear I bought for
him. I found out quickly that he just wasn’t ready. His poor teachers at school. I got a bag with his accident clothes to take home almost every day. Lol. I was
forced to switch back to Pull-Ups and we started practicing. To encourage him, hubby
often took him to the bathroom so he could watch dad. We also made it clear to
him that Pull-Ups didn’t mean pee on yourself because it’s basically still
diapers (that's why I kinda dislike them). We had to be deliberate with how often we took him to
the bathroom, or else he'd depend on the comfort of his Pull-Ups. He was on a
tight potty schedule at school and at home. We used stickers as his reward after every successful potty visit. I sometimes added a special treat at home!
After a while, I got brave and started back with underwear on the weekends.
Demi eventually caught on!
About two months ago, we went back strictly to underwear at
school and at home and used only Pull-Ups during nap time and bedtime. He had
very few accidents! Every day I went to pick him from school and saw he was
still in the same clothes I dropped him off in, I squealed for joy! It was a celebration and we made a big deal
about it because trust me, it worked! Kids need that! All was great besides ONE
thing, a MAJOR thing! He refused to do the number 2 in the potty! No surprise there. Thankfully, I
personally always caught it at home because Demi plays loud and hard. Our home
stays noisy and once it got unusually quiet I would run looking for him. LOL!
Some days I was lucky to catch it before it made an appearance and some days
not so much. Since Demi loves big sis so much, his reward for doing the number
2 in the potty at school was getting to go pay Mo a visit in her class and it
worked! At home, we gradually went from him going quiet, to yelling my bum-bum
hurts to just flat out saying I want to go poopoo!
My baby only wears Pull-Ups at night time now, hence the
post title “Almost There!” It's actually a struggle now to get him in Pull-Ups at night because he still wants his underwear but I'm like "Uh Uh bruh". I will probably encourage that soon enough because I want to be TOTALLY done with buying Pull-ups! Demi likes to stand to go pee, so it's pretty funny when
he has to poop too! The other night I took him to the bathroom and before bath
time and he stood to pee and when he got done he said “mom I sit down now, I
want to poo-poo”. He also loves an audience once he’s done to show off his accomplishment. He yells “I did it mom!”
and then calls for hubby and Mo to come see his poop. Oh Demi!
This whole process was definitely not easy and it took a lot
of patience. I am so grateful to his teachers at school. They are just totally
awesome! Our alignment definitely made this a lot easier.
We did it before the BIG THREE!!! YES!!!
This photo was taken at school a couple of weeks ago when he asked to go poop in the potty and actually did it!! |
