My First Mother's Day!

10/1/14

Hello October!

I already had an interesting start to my month. This morning I was in court for like the umpteenth time this year. It all started earlier this year when I was pulled over driving back from work one evening. My offense? The officer told me I was texting and driving which I wasn't. Anyways I got a ticket for saying something really dumb even though it was the truth. Lol

Three court visits later, I asked if I could just pay the ticket because I did not want to step my foot in that courtroom again! I went up to the clerk and pulled out my debit card. She told me they only took cash. I had already been in court for almost two hours that morning and I wasn't going to go look for an ATM or someplace to withdraw money and then come back to pay. I left and went to work and figured I'd take care of it eventually.

Eventually came a month letter when I received a warrant for my arrest in the mail! Hubby actually reminded me about the ticket prior to the deadline but that was the last thing on my mind at that point. After receiving that mail, I was at that darn court the following day to pay my $175 fine. After paying the ticket I went next door to the police station to have the warrant issue resolved. I sat in the reception area until I was called to a back room. While the cop got all my info and asked way too many questions I looked around the room. I was drawn to a camera and a blank wall behind it which I figured was for mug shots! My mind started running 8 miles per minute! If this guy asked me to stand against that wall... Ha! He will see some Ini Edo(Nigerian actress) action. I would lose it... literally. Thankfully, that never happened but what did happen was him handing me another ticket for failure to pay fines and yet another mandatory court appearance for October 1. Why me?!?

I showed up this morning and you better believe, when I got through with the judge I went straight to the clerk and wrote her a check for $150 which was my penalty for paying late. Thankfully, hubby reminded me to go with the check book this morning. By the way, they had a sticker on their window that said starting September 1st 2014 they accept online payments. *Insert eye roll* plus a major hiss...

My court visits were quite an experience. There was no privacy! It was like a Judge Mathis courtroom. There were several other people in the room and the Judge called your name and after going to the stand he began talking about your offense. So cringe worthy. It was kinda entertaining though. There was some lady and her abusive boyfriend or now ex-boyfriend I think. Anyway the guy was in chains, he supposedly was let out of jail for the appearance. He was requesting for their son to be allowed to come visit him. Then there was another guy. I don't even remember his offense but what made him memorable was when the Judge asked him "Do you plead guilty or not guilty?" He responded "Which one should I plead?" Everyone bursted out laughing including the judge who eventually told him he is not in the position to give him legal advise. Anyhoo! I'm done with that courthouse and I pray I never go back!

This first day of the month also marks the Independence Day for my country Nigeria. Happy 54th Independence Day to all my Nigerians. God Bless and Deliver us from evil!

October is Breast Cancer awareness month. Breast Cancer is the second leading cause of death among women. According to nationalbreastcancer.org "Women should perform a self breast-exam each month and any changes or abnormalities should be discussed with a doctor or physician".

We are close to the end of the year. Wow!
